WHERE WE STAND
The Monarchs are tied for first place in the East Division with 48 points, tied with Adirondack (48 pts.) and seven points ahead of Reading (41 pts.) for the division lead. Manchester's 48 points are good for a third place tie in the Eastern Conference, nine points back of the conference leading Florida Everblades (57 pts.).
NORFOLK TO SET SAIL NORTH
The Monarchs will host the Norfolk Admirals in a two-game weekend series starting Saturday, Jan. 16 (7 p.m.) from the Verizon Wireless Arena. Entering the week, Norfolk sits in fourth place in the East Division with 32 points and carries a 6-15-1-0 road record. Norfolk will play fellow division rivals Adirondack and Elmira before docking in Manchester for the weekend.
LEADING THE WAY
Matt Leitner continues to lead the Monarchs in scoring with 33 points on eight goals and 25 assists. Leitner is tied for eighth place in the ECHL in scoring and is tied for second in scoring amongst ECHL rookie skaters. Maxim Kitsyn sits second on the Monarchs roster in scoring with 27 points (13g, 14a) and Yann Sauve climbs into the top-3 in Monarchs scoring with 22 points (5g, 17a).
FOLLOW THE LEADERS
Three of the elder statesmen on the Monarchs, David Kolomatis, Stefan Legein and Matt MacKenzie, all have major milestones to hit in today's game as long as they suit up. The captain (Kolomatis) is sitting at 349 professional games played in his North American career. Assistant captain, Legein, is sitting on 299 professional games and fellow assistant captain, MacKenzie, is looking to play in game 200 of his career.
SHIP SHAPE
The Monarchs have had great success against the Admirals this season, with a 5-0-1-0 record. In the six previous meetings, the Monarchs have outscored the Admirals by a 23-14 margin and have outshot them in each game, with a combined total of 242-178.
WHO SAYS DEFENSEMEN CAN'T SCORE?
There are two players on the Monarchs roster who have points in each of the previous five meetings against the Admirals. Defensemen, Yann Sauve, has six of his 22 points this season coming against the Admirals all on assists, and fellow defensemen and Monarchs captain, David Kolomatis, has registered a point in each game against Norfolk as well, recording five points (2g, 3a) in those games.
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
New Monarchs forward, Mark Anthoine, will play his first games at the Verizon Wireless Arena this weekend, but the native of Lewiston, ME has already made his presence known to Monarchs Country. In his first two games with the team, the former Evansville IceMen (ECHL) and Maine Black Bear, has registered five points on two goals and three assists. The left-shot played big minutes on the penalty kill and took many defensive-zone face-offs for his new team in Elmira. Saturday night, Anthoine tallied four points on two goals and two assists and could have easily netted a hat-trick, but unselfishly dished a pass with an empty net in front of him in the final seconds of the game.
