NORTH CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA - Tony Deluca scored the only goal of the shootout as the Alaska Aces defeated the South Carolina Stingrays 4-3 Sunday at the North Charleston Coliseum.
With the shootout win, the Aces completed the six-game road trip with points from every game.
Stephen Perfetto gave Alaska a 1-0 first period lead with his 7th goal of the season at the 9:18 mark. Perfetto unleashed a wrist shot from the deep slot that eluded Stingrays goaltender Mark Dekanich on the glove side. The goal was assisted by Justin Breton and William Wrenn.
The Aces stretched their lead to 2-0 in the second period with Tim Coffman's 13th goal at 14:10. Assists went to Wrenn and Collin Valcourt. Then Breton found the back of the net for his 13th at 19:19 from Wrenn and Hunt to make it 3-0. But South Carolina answered before the end of the period, Marcus Perrier blasting home a shot from the hash marks with 7 seconds to go making it 3-1 Aces at the end of two.
In the third period, Stephan Vigier zipped one in past Aces Goaltender Troy Redmann at 7:55 to close the gap to 3-2, and with Dekanich out of the net for an extra attacker, David Pacan was in the right place at the right time to snap one in at 18:40 to tie the game at 3 apiece.
The 3 on 3 overtime period was lively, though no goals were scored. Alaska outshot South Carolina 3-2 in the extra period.
In the shootout, Peter Sivak and Coffman missed for Alaska, while South Carolina's Pacan and Vigier were denied as well. Deluca then used a slow-down, forehand, backhand move to slide the puck around Dekanich and into the net. Paul Rodrigues could not convert his shot for the Stingrays, and the Aces skated off with the extra point.
Redmann finished with 30 saves for Alaska...Dekanich knocked aside 42 shots in the loss.
The Aces play next at home against the Idaho Steelheads next Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage.
The Aces return home to face the Idaho Steelheads in a 3 game series starting Friday, January 22. For tickets, stop by the Aces ticket office at 15th and Gambell Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm, or go online at www.alaskaaces.com.
