READING, Pa. - Alex Roach sent the crowd at Santander Arena home shaking their heads when he scored at 3:44 in overtime, capping off a Manchester Monarchs come-from-behind win over the Reading Royals on Wednesday night, 4-3.

The Monarchs (31-14-1-4) handed Reading (24-19-5-3) their 5th loss when leading after two periods on the season. With the win, the Monarchs grabbed their league leading 8th victory when trailing heading into the third period.

The Royals got the scoring started when Pavel Padakin scored his 6th goal of the season at 7:23 of the first period. After making two saves, Monarchs goaltender, Colin Stevens, couldn't stop the third shot taken by Padakin in the scrum to the right of the cage, giving Reading the 1-0 lead.

Robbie Czarnick added to the Reading lead when he sent a slap shot from the slot home while on the power play at 18:34 of the first period. Troy Power blocked the initial shot on goal, but the puck caromed directly to Czarnick, who was all alone just inside the left face-off circle, and sent his shot up and over the glove of Stevens.

The Monarchs cut the Reading lead in half at 2:59 of the second period when Danick Paquette netted his 7th goal of the season. While on the power play, Paquette took a slick pass from Matt Leitner at the top of the slot and roofed a wrister past the blocker of Royals goaltender, Martin Ouellette.

The one-goal deficit didn't last long, as Brandon Alderson pushed the Royals lead back to two goals, scoring his 4th of the season just :19 seconds after Paquette's tally. After a turnover in the Monarchs zone, Alderson was all alone to the left of Stevens, and lifted a shot over the left pad of the Monarchs goalie, putting the Royals up, 3-1.

Matt Fornataro cut into the Reading lead again at 5:29 of the third period, scoring his 3rd goal of the season. Fornataro corralled a bouncing puck at the blue line while on one knee, got up and sent a low, seeing-eye wrister past Ouellette to bring the Monarchs to within one.

Paquette brought the Monarchs all the way back to even when he scored his second of the night with 21.7 seconds remaining in the game and Stevens pulled for an extra attacker. Michael Boivin sent a desperation wrister to the front of the net where Paquette tipped the puck home past Ouellette, sending the game to overtime.

The overtime period was filled with end-to-end rushes, and was stamped when Roach sent a wrister past Ouellette at 3:44 of the extra frame, scoring his 4th goal of the season. Despite Roach's game-winning-goal, Stevens was the hero of the overtime period, stopping four point-blank Reading chances in the first minute to keep the game tied.

The Monarchs are back on the ice Friday, Feb. 19 (7 p.m.) when they face the Royals in the middle game of a three-game series at Santander Arena.
