MANCHESTER, N.H. - Alex Guptill's game-winner capped a two-goal surge in the third period, leading the Manchester Monarchs to a 3-2, come-from-behind win, over the Elmira Jackals on Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

The Monarchs (33-15-1-4) dealt the Jackals (26-24-3-1) their first loss when leading after two periods this season.

"We obviously don't want to be down heading into the third period," Head Coach, Rich Seeley said. "When we are, it's nice to know the guys have the confidence and belief that when they work hard, we'll get the result we want."

The Monarchs opened the scoring at 2:54 in the first period when Maxim Kitsyn netted his team-leading 22nd goal of the season. Matt Fornataro skated down the left boards into the offensive zone and found Joey Diamond's stick across the ice. Diamond fed Kitsyn a pass in the slot where Kitsyn put a wrister past Elmira goaltender, C.J. Motte, high glove side for the 1-0 Monarchs lead.

The Jackals bounced back at 6:54 on Tyler Currier's 16th goal of the season. Currier capitalized on a turnover in the Monarchs defensive zone, intercepting the puck at the right dot and wristed it past Monarchs goaltender, Doug Carr, to tie the game.

The Jackals took the lead at 10:37 in the second period on a power-play goal from Spiro Goulakos, taking advantage :11 seconds into a five-minute major penalty on Danick Paquette. Goulakos netted his 7th tally of the season with a glove-side shot off of a rebound given up by Carr, giving the Jackals the 2-1 lead.

Michael Boivin tied the game for the Monarchs at 12:59 in the third period with a shorthanded goal, his 7th tally of the season. Matt Leitner picked the puck up in the left corner and found Boivin sliding into the slot where he one-timed a shot past Motte's glove.

Alex Guptill scored the game-winning, power-play goal on his 14th tally of the season at 18:25 in the third period. Fornataro started the play by finding Darik Angeli skating into the offensive zone. Angeli crashed the net with Guptill sliding down to the low slot to find the loose puck for a one-timer, giving the Monarchs a 3-2 advantage.

The Monarchs return to the Jungle on Wednesday, Feb. 24, when they host the Adirondack Thunder in a divisional showdown.
