Adirondack Thunder News Release

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight is the fourth meeting of the season between the Thunder and the Beast with Adirondack taking each of the first three by a combined 14-6 margin. The last time these two teams met in Canada, Adirondack was led by a Ken Appleby shutout and a three-point night from captain Rob Bordson.

GOOD THINGS COME IN THREES: The Adirondack Thunder have been at the top of their game in the back end of three-in-three sets. The Thunder are undefeated in regulation in five games in such situations this season, holding a 4-0-1 record for nine of a possible ten points.

DREW IT UP: After Thunder netminder Drew Fielding made his return to the lineup in a big way with a 43-save effort in Friday' shootout defeat in Elmira, he topped it with a 49-save win last evening as the Thunder won 3-1. Fielding's 49 saves were an ECHL career high and the Ontario native has turned aside 92 of 94 shots he's faced since he returned to the team on Thursday. In the win, Fielding improved his save percentage in games played with Adirondack to .960 on the season and lowered his goals against average to 1.33.

FOUR SCORE: Quinn Smith extended his scoring streak to four games as he assisted on Adirondack's game-opening goal in last night's victory. Smith's helper came early in the first period on Michael Kirkpatrick's tally to make the score 1-0. The Boston College product's assist was his third of the season and gives him four points in his last four games played, dating back to Sunday in Reading.

COOL HAND LOU: Winger Louick Marcotte continued his dominance against the Jackals with a two-goal effort in last evening's 3-1 win. Marcotte, who scored his team's second and third goals, collected his third multi-goal game of the season, with the first also coming at First Arena on October 16. Marcotte has collected 19 points (10-9-19) in his rookie season and has six goals and seven points in seven games against the Jackals this season.

MIKE A BOSS: Thunder center Michael Kirkpatrick scored his 20th goal of the season in last night's win in Elmira as he increased both his team lead and ECHL lead amongst rookie scorers. Kirkpatrick's 20 tallies are two clear of Matt Willows and Brett Cameron and his 40 points rank tied for sixth in the ECHL.

WORK OF MAC-ART: Winger Peter MacArthur also had a multi-point effort in last night's win with a pair of assists. MacArthur's helpers ended a six-game scoreless skid and marked his third multi-point game of the season. The Clifton Park native set his career high with four assists on October 28, 2011 against the Colorado Eagles.

A TIME TO PENALTY KILL: Adirondack's penalty kill unit has been on fire in the second half of their season and the Thunder have moved into the ECHL's top ten in penalty killing percentage at 85.9 %, good for seventh in the league. Bolstered by a stretch of 18 perfect penalty killing efforts from their last 22 games, including a 6-for-6 effort last night, the Thunder have vaulted 12 spots in the league standings from 19th, where they sat in early January.
