INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI - The Missouri Mavericks historic home stand came to a close on Sunday evening with an unfamiliar scene at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena... a Mavericks loss. The Mavs fell 2-1 to the IceMen after an unfortunate re-direction of a Missouri pass sent the puck into an unguarded net in the third period.
The loss is only the Mavericks' third at home of the 2015-16 season. Missouri owns the top record in the ECHL, 41-7-2-1, and the most commanding home record in the league of 24-3-0-0.
Daultan Leveille scored the first goal of the evening for the IceMen 3:34 into the first period. Evansville maintained their 1-0 lead until defenseman Pat Cullity scored his second goal of the weekend (third of the season for the Mavericks) at 12:06 of the second period to tie the game up 1-1. Ross Johnston and Trevor Ludwig were credited with the assists on the play.
Net-minder Steven Summerhays left the ice for an extra Mavericks attacker following a delayed penalty call in the third period, when Tyler Barnes' pass attempt just inside the Tulsa defensive zone was re-directed off an Evansville skater the length of the ice and into an empty the Mavs' net. Spencer Humphries was credited with the game-winning goal.
The Missouri Mavericks play their next three games on the road, starting with a 6:05p.m. contest against the Indy Fuel on Tuesday, Feb. 23. Tune-in to watch the action live through ECHL.TV-full season and single-game packages available. Download the Mavs free mobile app to listen to the live game broadcast. Available for Apple and Android devices.
The Mavs return to Silverstein Eye Centers Arena on Sunday, Mar. 28 when they are celebrating Racing Night! Cars from local speedways will be on display in the arena parking lot at 1:00p.m. before the 4:05p.m. game, and on the ice during second intermission! Valley Speedway will be giving away 2 season passes at the game during Chuck-A-Puck!
The first 2,000 fans in attendance will also receive the third and final set of trading cards from the Kansas City Hockey Heritage series-featuring players of note from KC hockey history.
Tickets for all Missouri Mavericks home games are available online at TicketMaster.com and in-person at the arena box office.
