RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA - Peter Sivak, Marc-Andre Levesque and Ben Lake scored shootout goals to give the Alaska Aces a 4-3 victory over Rapid City Saturday at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
The teams were tied at 1 after one period and tied at 3 at the end of the second, third and overtime periods.
Like Friday night, the Aces bagged the first goal of the game. With Rapid City's Cody Ferriero in the penalty box for high sticking, Felix-Antoine Poulin pounced on a rebound of a second shot on goal and banged it into the net for his 6th goal of the season at 14:28. Assists to Garet Hunt and Peter Sivak.
Just 90 seconds later, Rapid City evened the score with a power play goal of their own. With Alaska's Matt Harlow off on a high sticking penalty, Ryan Misiak was the toe to Ferriero's tick and Taylor Doherty's tack. The goal at 15:58 was Misiak's 4th of the season.
A wild second period scoring-wise started with Misiak's second goal of the game, 5th of the season on a power play tip of a Ferriero shot at 7:24. The Aces pushed back with a Peter Sivak one-time blast on a feed from Stephen Perfetto on a 2 on 1 rush at 10:07. It was Sivak's 14th lamp-lighter of the season.
The Aces wasted little time getting their third goal, this time Perfetto from Sivak and Davis Vandane at 11:19 of the second period...Perfetto's 10th of the season. A power play goal by Rapid City's James Melindy tied the game at 3 at the end of two periods, Melindy's 3 goal of the season.
No scoring in the third period or overtime, and the shootout went deep...7 shooters for Alaska, 7 for Rapid City. Lake's goal and Melindy's miss ended the extended game with the Aces picking up the extra point to tie them with the Rush in the standings.
Aces goaltender Jacob DeSerres finished the game with 19 saves, while Rapid City's Sam Marotta turned away 32 Aces shots.
The two teams will finish their three-game series Sunday afternoon in Rapid City at 2:05 Alaska time.
The Aces return to the Sullivan Arena on Friday, March 9 against Ft. Wayne.
