MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Rich Seeley, announced today that Thomas Schemitsch has been assigned to the Monarchs by the Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL) and Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman has signed a Standard Player Contract with the team.

The Monarchs are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings and the American Hockey League's Ontario Reign.

Schemitsch, 20, played 182 games over three seasons with the Owen Sound Attack (OHL), and compiled 97 points on 29 goals and 68 assists. The right-shot defenseman also played in 16 playoff games for Owen, scoring seven points on one goal and six assists.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound native of Thornhill, Ontario, played in four games this season for the Thunderbirds during his rookie campaign without recording a point. Schemitsch was a third-round pick (#88 overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

LaVallee-Smotherman, 30, spent the 2015-16 season playing for Rögle BK of the Swedish Hockey League where he was named an assistant captain. During the 2015-16 season, LaVallee-Smotherman played in 52 games and registered 19 points on 14 goals and five assists.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound native of Corvallis, Ore., was a fourth-round pick (#116 overall) of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. In his professional career, LaVallee-Smotherman has played in 368 AHL games with the Chicago Wolves, Syracuse Crunch and Providence Bruins, recording 164 points on 78 goals and 86 assists, along with 400 penalty minutes. The left-shot forward has also played in four career NHL games with the Thrashers, recording two points on a goal and an assist.

LaVallee-Smotherman has played overseas for the last five seasons where he logged 240 games and scored 191 points on 113 goals and 78 assists. In his career, LaVallee-Smotherman has won the Calder Cup with the Wolves in 2008, led the Danish League in scoring (60 points) and goals (31) during the 2011-12 season and was a Memorial Cup Champion (CHL) in 2006 when playing for the Québec Remparts.

Schemitsch, LaVallee-Smotherman and the Monarchs are back in action Wednesday, Nov. 16 (10 a.m.) when they host the Reading Royals on Education Day from SNHU Arena.
