Carolina Mudcats News Release

Pearl, MS --- Willie Cabrera drove in three runs to lead Chris Cody to his first win in the Atlanta organization as Mississippi beat Carolina 6-3 at Trustmark Park on Friday night.

Cody (W, 1-0) worked six innings allowing nine hits in beating Carolina (18-22). Cody was signed by Atlanta earlier in the week from the Atlantic League after having spent the last two seasons with Huntsville.

James Avery (L, 5-10) became the first 10-game loser in the league, working 3 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, four walks and four runs. Avery surrendered a run in the first inning, then a two-run single to Cabrera in the third.

The Mudcats scored twice in the fourth against Cody thanks to Neftali Soto's franchise record-setting 25th home run, blasting a shot to straightaway centerfield. Later in the inning, Didi Gregorius singled home Yasmani Grandal from second.

However, the Braves knocked Avery out in the bottom of the fourth after loading the bases with one out. Kyle McCulloch entered to retire all eight batters he faced, permitting one run to score on a force out.

James Adkins and Tim Hamulack pitched an inning apiece, allowing a run in the seventh and eighth inning respectively.

Josh Ravin makes his Double-A debut on Saturday night at 7:05 PM ET.
