Mobile BayBears News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Jarrod Parker coughed up six runs on six hits in his first three innings on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium, and the BayBears were unable to rebound in a 6-2, series-opening loss to the Montgomery Biscuits.

Parker (9-7) hit Tim Beckham with a breaking ball to put a runner on with one out in the bottom of the first. From there, Cole Figueroa and Henry Wrigley were issued free passes to load the bases. Kyeong Kang blasted a double off the fence in left to score Beckham and Figueroa while John Shelby singled Wrigley and Kang to the dish, putting Montgomery (55-56, 21-20) up by four.

A two-out rally from the BayBears (66-44, 28-12) pulled the visitors within three in the top of the second as Ed Easley and Ollie Linton singled before a Jake Elmore double to right-center field gap drew Easley to the plate.

Montgomery added a run in the second and one more in the third to push their cushion to 6-1. Beckham cracked a two-base hit to knock home Craig Albernaz in the second while Matt Sweeney's run-scoring double over first brought Wrigley home.

Parker, Billy Spottiswood and Josh Ellis didn't allow another hit the rest of the night, but the BayBears' offense was muted by the Biscuits. Jim Paduch (2-4) worked five innings while Marquis Fleming and Matt Bush each tossed two. Daryle Ward's sac fly in the fifth to invite Elmore across the plate closed the scoring.

The BayBears now carry a 7.5 game lead over Montgomery as they play game two of their five-game series on Saturday night at 7:05. Left-hander Tyler Skaggs (2-1) will be on the bump for the BayBears against righty Chris Archer (6-6).

The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium on Wednesday, August 10 to battle the Mississippi Braves in the start of a five-game series at 7:05.
