April 10, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - A day after recording a season high 29 hits, the Omaha Storm Chasers (4-4) gave up a season high 19 hits to the Memphis Redbirds (5-3) in a 10-1 loss to finish out the homestand splitting both series. The Chasers had only allowed ten total runs in the series with the Redbirds before giving up double-digit runs in the finale.
Seven out of nine Memphis starters recorded a multi-hit game, a feat the Storm Chasers pulled off during their 20-3 win Wednesday. The Redbirds tagged Omaha starter John Lamb for 11 hits in his five innings of work, his highest total in five career Triple-A starts. In those five starts for Lamb, he has received one run or less of support in four of the five games. After the Chasers trailed 1-0 with three innings in the books, Memphis scored multiple runs in four straight innings while Redbirds starter Tim Cooney limited Omaha to one run in his 6.1 innings of work.
In a down game offensively for the Storm Chasers, Matt Fields provided a bright spot by reaching safely in all four at-bats and collecting three hits. Fields leads the Pacific Coast League with 15 hits on the season, and leads Omaha with a .469 batting average (15-for-32). Fields is one of only three players in the Pacific Coast League that has hit safely in all eight games this season, and was 10-for-17 in the series with Memphis.
The Storm Chasers now head out for their first road trip of the season, taking on the Nashville Sounds for already the second series with the former division rival in 2014. Right-hander Aaron Brooks makes his Triple-A debut for Omaha in his first appearance of the year, after he was called up by the Royals for four days without seeing action. Brooks will face off with fellow righty Hiram Burgos (0-1, 6.23 ERA), with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m. on 1180 Zone 2 The Duece and MiLB.TV.
