Metairie, La. - Back-to-back home runs by George Springer and Jon Singleton in the eighth inning broke open a tied game, as the Oklahoma City RedHawks went on to win 8-2 against the New Orleans Zephyrs Thursday night at Zephyr Field.

The teams entered the eighth inning tied, 2-2, before the RedHawks scored a total of six runs in the frame.

The RedHawks (6-2) earned their first series sweep at Zephyr Field since July 20-23, 2009, and claimed their fifth-straight win overall.

Springer's first home run of 2014, and Singleton's second homer of the season, pushed the RedHawks' stretch of consecutive games with a home run to six games. The last time Oklahoma City homered in six straight games was June 30-July 5, 2012.

Oklahoma City took the first lead of the game Thursday.

A two-out RBI single by Japhet Amador in the top of the fourth inning scored Springer for a 1-0 RedHawks lead. Springer led off the inning with a walk, then stole second base with Amador at the plate.

The Zephyrs (1-7) tied the game during the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Rob Brantly that scored Justin Bour.

Zephyr Josh Rodriguez led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a home run to left field to put New Orleans ahead, 2-1, but Oklahoma City soon knotted the score. Amador's sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning scored Singleton for a 2-2 tie.

After the back-to-back solo homers to center field by Springer and Singleton in the eighth inning, Oklahoma City went on to load the bases for Ronny Torreyes. Torreyes hit a RBI line-drive single to score Max Stassi with one out. Domingo Santana scored on a fielding error by left fielder Brian Bogusevic during the play. With the bases loaded again later in the inning, Gregorio Petit doubled to bring home two more runs for the RedHawks.

Three RedHawks finished the game with two hits apiece, as Oklahoma City outhit the Zephyrs, 11-9. Petit and Amador each picked up two RBI.

Piggyback starting pitcher David Martinez (2-0) recorded the win, allowing three hits, walking one and striking out two over 4.0 scoreless innings.

New Orleans pitcher Chaz Roe (0-1) was charged with the loss.

Oklahoma City ended their eight-game, season-opening road trip with a 6-2 record.

The RedHawks now return to Oklahoma City for their home opener at 7:05 p.m. Friday against New Orleans at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Longtime Oklahoma City meteorologist Gary England is scheduled to throw out a ceremonial first pitch, and post-game fireworks are also part of Friday's planned special events.
