Round Rock Beats Sky Sox, 14-8; Pridie Hits Two Home Runs

Despite jumping out to a four-run lead in the first inning and a two homer day for left fielder Jason Pridie, it wasn't enough for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (4-4). The Round Rock Express (5-3) offense exploded in Thursday's series finale to win their third straight game against the Sky Sox, 14-8.

Express starter Scott Baker (2-0) got off to a rough start in the first when left fielder Jason Pridie drew a leadoff walk, followed up by an RBI-triple from right fielder Tim Wheeler and an RBI-double from center fielder Corey Dickerson. The Sox added another two runs thanks to a triple by first baseman Ben Paulsen and a single by second baseman Drew Garcia.

However, Baker was able to overcome the tough inning holding the Sox scoreless throughout the next five frames.

RHP Christian Bergman (1-1) sat the Express down in order in the bottom half of the first, and retired the first two batters in the second to make it 23 consecutive batters he retired, dating back to his first start in New Orleans. But center fielder Jared Hoying (1) started things up for Round Rock with a two-run bomb with two outs. The Express proceeded to score eight runs in the second and third innings, including an RBI-double by Hoying and a two-RBI homer by second baseman Kensuke Tanaka (2).

Round Rock tacked on another five runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Sky Sox got a rally going in the top of the seventh when Pridie hit his first long ball of the season, a two-run shot. The Sox scored again when third baseman Ryan Wheeler doubled home Dickerson, who drew a walk. Pridie would hit another home run in the ninth, a solo shot. He finished with two hits, three runs and three RBI. The Express sealed the deal with two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth.

Five Sky Sox players recorded multi-hit games, including three hits from Dickerson. Pridie, R. Wheeler, Paulsen and catcher Jackson Williams also recorded two hits.

The entire Express lineup recorded a hit, led by Tanaka who went 3-for-4, with three runs and two RBI.

The Sky Sox will open their home schedule against the Express at 6:35 p.m. (MDT) Friday evening. LHP Tyler Matzek (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will toe the rubber for Colorado Springs, squaring off against LHP Michael Kirkman (0-0, 18.00).

SOX NOTES

- Pridie's two home runs Thursday was the first time a Sky Sox player had two since Kent Matthes did so on August 21, 2013 at Sacramento. Pridie also extended his hitting streak to seven games.

- The Sky Sox who had the most triples in the PCL last season (71) hit three on Thursday. They now have four on the season, which is tied for second this season.
