Salt Lake Bees News Release
The Salt Lake Bees snapped a nine-game home winning streak dating back to last season against the Fresno Grizzlies with a 10-7 loss Wednesday night at Smith's Ballpark.
Salt Lake starter Jose Alverez got off to a shaky start, giving up five earned runs over the first three innings. The Bees defense added three errors to bring the Grizzlies run total to seven. In contrast, Mitch Lively was almost perfect on the mound for Fresno. The right-hander saw just 12 batters through four, giving up just one hit to C.J. Cron. The Bees managed to put their first run on the board in the fifth, while the Grizzlies answered with two more of their own off David Carpenter in sixth. Salt Lake got going in the bottom of the inning, scoring five runs, highlighted by a grand slam from Cron.
Fresno tallied one additional run off Carpenter in the seventh, before Yoslan Herrera shut down the offense and closed out the game for Salt Lake. The Bees crossed home one more time but were not able to close the gap as Grant Green's potential game-tying home run was caught on the warning track in center field. Cron ended the night 2-4 while improving his hit streak to seven games and moving up to second in the PCL in RBIs with 11. Brennan Boesch went 2-4 with two RBIs, while Green was 2-4 at the plate with one RBI. Both starters were involved in the decision as Alvarez took the loss for the Bees while Lively picked up the victory for Fresno.
"I thought our guys did a great job tonight, regardless of the score, with just putting together at bats," said Salt Lake manager Keith Johnson. "We had that big inning in the middle that got us back in the game, but we weren't quite able to put up the runs when we needed to. I'm just proud about the way our guys played for 27 outs."
Salt Lake caps off its eight-game home stand tomorrow night with ugly sweater night, taking on Fresno at 6:35 p.m. Tickets are available at the Smith's Ballpark box office, SmithsTix locations or at slbees.com .
