Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine - Tate Matheny cracked a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Portland Sea Dogs (16-32) a 7-3 win over the Altoona Curve (23-26) in the series finale on Monday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Portland took three of four over the Curve and picked up their first walk-off win of the season.
Brett Netzer started the rally with a one-out single off losing pitcher Matt Eckelman (1-2). With two outs, Josh Tobias and Cody Asche drew walks. Matheny homered on the first pitch, an opposite-field shot just about the right-field wall. Matheny has two grand slams out of his three Double-A homers.
Durbin Feltman (W, 2-1) allowed the tying run in the ninth inning, a homer by Jared Oliva, but earned the win.
Eckelman suffered his second of the series, yielding four runs in just 2/3 of an inning.
Portland starter Dedgar Jimenez (ND) was outstanding in his ninth start of the year. Jimenez tossed six scoreless on just six hits, one walk, and six strikeouts.
The 'Dogs struck first on a run-scoring single by Luke Tendler in the second inning. Matheny set up the first run with a lead-off double.
Portland took a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning on RBI singles from Bobby Dalbec (2-for-5) and Josh Tobias.
Altoona chipped away with single runs in the seventh and eighth. Their bullpen retired ten straight until Netzer's ninth-inning single.
The Sea Dogs open up a seven-game trip in six days, beginning Tuesday night against the Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies affiliate) from Dunkin' Donuts Park. First pitch is 7:05 PM and radio coverage on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 6:50 PM. The game is available on the tune-in app and MiLB.TV.
