Trenton Thunder News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Brandon Wagner recorded his first career multi-homer game and the Thunder matched a season-high with four homers in their 11-2 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (27-18) on Monday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium.
With the win, the Thunder (29-19) jumped back into first place in the Eastern Division and earned a split of their four-game weekend series.
Wagner went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and three runs batted in in the victory. After hitting a solo shot as the first of back-to-back home runs with Ben Ruta, Wagner added a two-run blast in the eighth. Over his last ten games at the plate, the Hopewell, NJ native is 12-for-33 (.364) and is currently riding a season-high nine-game on-base streak.
The Thunder jumped out to a 3-0 lead in support of Trevor Stephan before the power bats woke up for the Thunder in the fourth inning. Kyle Holder (3-for-4, three runs scored) hit his third homer of the season to lead off the fourth inning off Tommy Wilson. Holder was one of five Thunder players to record a multi-hit game on Monday afternoon.
The Thunder knocked back-to-back home runs for the second time in a game this season when Wagner and Ben Ruta hit solo shots to open the fifth inning. Wagner's first homer of the day cleared the video board in right field at NYSEG Stadium. Kellin Deglan added an RBI groundout in the fifth to take a 7-1 lead for the Thunder that they would not relinquish.
Adonis Rosa earned the win with 4.2 innings of relief behind Stephan. Rosa allowed two runs on four hits and two walks across his 71-pitch outing. Trevor Stephan matched a season-high with six strikeouts over his start which lasted 3.1 IP.
Deglan added a two-run double in the ninth inning to give him a season-high three runs batted in. The Thunder eclipsed double digit runs on offense for just the fourth time this season and fell two hits and two runs shy of matching season-highs with 11 runs and 15 hits.
