Reading, PA â The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced that forward Judd Medak has left the team to pursue an opportunity to play hockey in Scotland. Medak has been placed on the seven-day IR. Rookie defenseman Tom Galvin has been activated off the seven-day injured list and expected in the line up tonight versus Bakersfield.
Medak, 25, was in his second season with the Royals. The University of Minnesota-Duluth graduate posted 11 goals and 25 points in 29 games this season. He ranked third on the team in scoring this season. He led the Royals with three shorthand goals and four shorthand points. The Vancouver, British Columbia native finished third in assists and scoring in the 2004 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Medak scored three goals and ten points in 15 games during last season's playoffs and scored the first overtime game-winning goal in Royals history (4/17 @ PEO, 2-1W) just 24-seconds into the extra session. The third-year professional was and ECHL All-Star in 2002-03 (Greenville Grrrowl). Medak was teammates with current Royals Jon Francisco and Beau Geisler and the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
Galvin, 25, was placed on the 7-day IR during the Royals season high eight-game road trip (12/18/04 â 1/4/05). He suffered a hand injury in the Royals 3-2 shootout win on New Year's Day and was placed on the IR on January 2. Prior to his injury he had appeared in every game this season for Reading. The New York native has chipped in four helpers in 25 games and 14 penalty minutes. Galvin has a plus-3 plus/minus rating. The Montreal Canadiens draft pick finished a four-year career at the University of Notre Dame before signing in Reading.
The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio. The Royals enjoyed their first Kelly Cup playoff appearance last season, claiming the Northern Division Title and were one win away from qualifying for the Kelly Cup Finals. The Royals and the City of Reading are proud to be hosting the 13th annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition presented by Coors Light on January 25 and 26.
Reading hosts the best team in the ECHL tonight in the Sovereign Center. Bakersfield is riding a five-game win streak and has a league-best 21-9-4 record and 46 points to lead the West Division. Reading Area Community College is rewarding the first 1,200 fans through the gate with a Royals souvenir puck. Reading hosts North Division leading Atlantic City on Friday night. Rieck's Printing has the first edition of Rieck's Printing Royals trading cards which will be distributed to the first 2,500 fans through the gate. Finally on Sunday, Reading and Toledo meet for the first time this season in the Sovereign Center and Comcast is handing out thunder sticks to the first 2,500 patrons.
