Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
AUGUSTA, GA â Brian Collins netted a hat trick as the Pee Dee Pride defeated the Augusta Lynx 6-2 on Tuesday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.
With the win, the Pride improve to 19-12-2 for 40 points, and are tied with Charlotte for first place in the East Division.
Augusta got on the scoreboard first at the 2:49 mark of the first period, scoring a power-play goal. Nick Boucher made the initial save, but the rebound came back to the slot, and it was buried by Ken Magowan for his 13th goal of the season.
It did not take the Pride long to tie the game, as the equalizer came just 25 seconds later. Magowan's former Boston University teammate, Collins, skated up the right-wing side and beat Matus Kostur with a quick wrist shot for his 16th goal of the season.
Pee Dee took a 2-1 lead into the locker room after one period, thanks to a Chad Spurr goal at 10:16. Kostur made the first save on a Gregg Johnson shot, but the rebound came to the hash marks, and Spurr buried it past the Lynx netminder for his seventh goal of the season.
Both Spurr and Allan Sirois, who also earned an assist on the goal, extended their scoring streaks to six games on the score.
The Pride extended their lead to 3-1 at the 3:00 mark of the middle period.
Tyler Kindle's shot from the center point was stopped by Jason Saal, who replaced Kostur at the start of the period, but Spurr was on the doorstep to slide the rebound home for his seventh goal of the season.
Augusta pulled back within one just 59 seconds later. Mike Sandbeck's shot from the corner slid past Boucher for his first tally of the season.
Pee Dee went back up by two at 13:05. With the puck sitting free in front, Sirois was able to get the puck on his stick and slide it past Saal for his 11th goal of the season, and his sixth in the last six games.
The Pride made it 5-2 through two periods with a power-play goal at 18:12.
Collins completed the hat trick by gathering in a puck on the far post and firing it past Saal for his 18th of the season.
Pee Dee added one more goal to its lead at the 16:08 of the final period.
Jeff Szwez skated untouched up the center of the ice and uncorked a wicked wrister that beat Saal over the left shoulder for his 10th goal of the season.
The Pride return home on Thursday to open a five-game home stand, as the Texas Wildcatters make their first-ever visit to Florence. It's another Thirsty Thursday, with all draft beer just $2.
Tickets for all Pride home games are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or _www.ticketmaster.com_ (http://www.ticketmaster.com/) .
