
Gladiators get by Gators 5-3

Gwinnett, GA The Louisiana IceGators losing streak stretched to 5 games as Adam Smyth scored on a rebound with under 9 minutes left in the 3rd period to give the Gwinnett Gladiators a 5-3 victory over the IceGators Tuesday night in Gwinnett. The Gators are winless in their last 10 road games.
For the 2nd game in a row, the Gators allowed three first period goals and had to play catch up hockey all night. The Gladiators took a 2-0 lead before the game was 2 minutes old after goals by Brad Schell (5) at 1:01 and Jeff Campbell (15) at 1:49. Rookie Mark Rooneem continued his strong play by scoring a power play goal for Louisiana at 11:12. The Minnesota Wild prospect redirected a Josh Barker shot past Sean Fields for his 5th of the season and 3rd in four games. Jade Galbraith receiving the other assist on the marker. The Gators momentum would not last as at 14:35 Chris Durno's one timer (12) beat Nathan Martsers for a 3-1 Gladiators lead after 20 minutes of play.
The only goal scored in the 2nd period came early on, just 59 seconds into the period. Rooneem came up the left wing, around the Gladiators defense and then centered the puck to Galbraith for the backhander between the legs of Fields and a 3-2 hockey game. It was Galbraith's 2nd as a Gator and 6th of the season.
It took the IceGators 1:59 of the 3rd to tie the score. From the slot, Chris Thompson banked the puck off the skate of a Gwinnett player into the net past a fallen Sean Fileds. Thompson's 7th of the season was assisted by Max Fortunus and David Bararuk. The Gladiators would get the game winning goal at 11:07. Just as an IceGators penalty expired, Adam Smyth jammed home a rebound for his 6th of the season. Rick Emmett (7) added an empty netter with 30 seconds left in the game to make the final score 5-3. Louisiana falls to 14-17-3 and 5th place in the South. The Gators were outshot by Gwinnett 37-29.. Power plays were 1-5 for the Gators and 0-5 for the Gladiators. The Gators will travel to Biloxi for a 7:05 CST Thursday night contest with the Mississippi Sea Wolves.

Friday, January 14, 2005 NASCAR Night, Gators vs. Sea Wolves 7:05pm:
The ONLY home game of the month in on January 14, when the Gators host the Mississippi Sea Wolves on NASCAR night. Dale Earhardt Jr's #8 race car will be on display during the game. Pictures can be taken with the car for $10, net proceeds to benefit St. Jude's hospital. The Gators will be wearing special "NASCAR" jerseys which will auctioned off after the game.
