
Gladiators "Ice" Gators, 5-3

Adam Smyth scored the game winner with 8:53 left in the third period while Jim Jackson added two assists to help the Gwinnett Gladiators to a 5-3 win over the Louisiana IceGators on Tuesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
The Gladiators jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals 48 seconds apart. Brad Schell slipped past the IceGators defense and walked in on Louisiana netminder Nathan Marsters and flipped the puck over the goaltender's shoulder for the goal. Joe Bourne picked up an assist as he sprung Schell on the break 61 seconds into the first period.
Jeff Campbell jammed home a centering feed 1:49 into the first period to push the Gladiators lead to 2-0. Jim Jackson, pinching in from his point positing, fed Campbell walking into the slot to pick up an assist on the goal.
Louisiana got on the board with a power play goal at 11:12 of the opening period. Mark Rooneem deflected Josh Barker's slap shot from the point to beat Gladiators goaltender Sean Fields. Jade Galbraith also picked up an assist on the goal for the IceGators.
Chris Durno pushed the Gladiators lead back to two goals ripping a slap shot past Marsters at 14:35 of the fort period. Mike Stathopoulos added an assist as he set up Durno on the play. Dave McCulloch also chipped in a helper on the play moving the puck up the ice.
Roger Leonard beat Fields in the slot 55 seconds into the second period to pull the IceGators within a goal. Mark Rooneem fed a waiting Leonard in the slot to pick up an assist on the tally.
Louisiana tied the game up at 3-3 early in the third period. Chris Thompson snapped a shot past Fields 1:59 into the final period for the tying goal. David Barauk and Maxime Fortunas added an assist on the goal.
Adam Smyth found the puck in a pile up in front of Marsters and flipped the puck into the net for the game winner with 8:53 remaining in the final period. Jim Jackson added an assist throwing the puck to the front of the net while Durno took a whack at it before Symth jammed it home.
Rick Emmett put the game away with his 7th goal of the season, an empty net goal, with 30 seconds remaining throwing the puck into the net from center ice. Jeff Campbell and Kris Goodjohn moved the puck into the neural zone for a waiting Emmett.
Sean Fields turned aside 26 IceGator shots in the win to help the Gladiators improve to 18-10-4 on the season and move within 3 points of the idle first place Pensacola Ice Pilots.
