Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings have signed Victoria born netminder Kelly Shields. Shields started the season with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL and also played with the Fort Wayne Komets in the United Hockey League.

Shields was released early in the 2004-05 season by the Condors after only playing in one game. The 5'11 176 lbs. goaltender had his best season in professional hockey with the Fort Wayne Komets in 2003-04 as a rookie finishing with a 2.52 GAA and .910 save percentage. Shields played in 15 games with a record of 8-4-1 and was honored with the Komets Most Improved Player of the Year Award.

The Salmon Kings have also added another player to a defensive core that is riddled with injuries. Victoria has signed 21 year old Richmond, BC native Robert MacGregor. The 6'1 180 lbs. defenseman did not play hockey last season.

MacGregor last played in the Western Hockey League with the Portland Winter Hawks. His best season in the WHL was 2001-2002 finishing 61 games with four goals and eight assists for twelve points. MacGregor will help shore up a defense that is missing Brad Dexter, Corey Smith and Aaron Plumb with injury.
