Augusta Lynx News Release

The Pee Dee Pride continued their winning ways over the Augusta Lynx this season with a 6-2 win on Tuesday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.

First period action saw the Lynx jump out to a 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Ken Magowan at 2:49 from Sean Connolly and Eric Johansson. Magowan backed up in the slot just high enough to find a deflected pass and beat Nick Boucher past the left pad. The Pride would rebound shortly thereafter at 3:13 with a Brian Collins marker to tie the game, and Chad Spurr followed to give the Pride the lead at 10:16 to end the opening frame at 2-1 in favor of Pee Dee.

Jason Saal would replace starter Matus Kostur in the second period, but was brought under fire quickly by the Pride. Collins would open the scoring in the second period with a power play goal at 3:00, but Augusta cut right back at 3:59 with Mike Sandbeck's first goal of the year from Connolly and Louis Goulet to make it a 3-2 game. Pee Dee then caught an Allan Sirois marker at 13:05 to jump back up by two goals, and a late power play goal for Collins gave him the hat trick and Pee Dee a 5-2 lead after two periods of play.

In the third period, Jeff Szwez would score the only marker on an unassisted goal at the 16:08 mark to put the icing on a 6-2 Pride victory. Saal finished with 18 saves in the contest and ended up with the loss, while Kostur turned aside 12 shots for no decision. Nick Boucher made 34 saves for the Pride to earn the win. Augusta is now 12-17-4 on the season, while Pee Dee improves to 19-12-2.

The Lynx are back on the road tomorrow night in Charlotte, with the game on internet only through www.augustalynx.com or www.sportsjuice.com.
