
McCardell, Leveret Lead Snaps Past Cougars

Three runs in the top of the eighth inning helped propel the Snappers past the Cougars Thursday night, 5-3. Mike McCardell picked up the win for the Snappers, going eight innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and seven strikeouts.
Kane County got things rolling first with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Larry Cobb cracked a two-run homer off McCardell to give the Cougars the early 2-0 lead after three.
Beloit answered right back with two of their own in the top of the fourth inning. Rene Leveret blasted a two-run shot to dead center field, tying the game at 2-2 after three and a half.
After the Cougars scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead, the Snaps piled on three more in the top of the eighth to snag the lead, 5-3. Rene Leveret had the big hit again for Beloit, lacing a two-run single to right field scoring Ben Revere and Estarlin De Los Santos. Leveret and the Snaps took a 5-3 lead after seven and a half.
McCardell and new closer Santos Arias took it from there, retiring the final six batters of the game to give Beloit the 5-3 victory.
Estarlin De Los Santos went 3 for 3 with a walk for Beloit who improved to 23-23 in the second half.
