Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - Right-hander Blake Beavan's favorite number was nine Friday night at Alliant Energy Field. The Texas Rangers' first-round pick and newly crowned Clinton ace struck out a career-high nine batters over 6.0 scoreless innings, notching his team-leading ninth win the LumberKings' 3-1 victory over Wisconsin.

Beavan (W, 9-6) scattered three hits and walked only one batter over his six frames, lowering his team-best ERA to 2.28 in the process.

The LumberKings got him a 3-0 lead thanks to runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Davis Stoneburner and Engel Beltre opened the third inning with back-to-back infield singles, and Matt Lawson walked to load the bases. Timber Rattlers starter Juan Ramirez got Mitch Moreland to chop to the infield, but the Kings' first-baseman was able to avert the double-play at first, sending Stoneburner home.

Cristian Santana, whose heroic two-run homer in the eighth provided the win the previous night, again homered in the fourth. Facing Ramirez, he belted his 11th clout of the season over the wood wall in center.

Lawson completed the scoring with a towering shot of his own an inning later. His fifth home run cleared the wall in left-center and also chased Ramirez (L, 4-9) from the game.

Right-hander Chris Dennis (H, 6) kept the shutout in tact after Beavan's exit, giving just two hits while striking out two over 2.0 innings.

Closer Adalberto Flores came on for the ninth and allowed the Rattlers their only offensive highlight. Denny Almonte drew a one-out walk and moved to second on defensive indifference. A fielding error by third-baseman Jonathan Greene on a slow chopper by Ron Garth put a pair on board, and a wild pitch by Flores moved them both into scoring position.

Joe Dunigan skied a fly ball towards center, but Beltre coasted back to make the catch. Almonte tagged and scored to cut the lead to 3-1. Alex Liddi tried to keep the comeback on track, but Flores (S, 12) fanned him to end the game.

Beltre (2-for-4, double) and Stoneburner (2-for-2, triple) both had multi-hit nights for the LumberKings. Moreland's RBI was his league-leading 78th of the season.

White was the only Rattler with a multi-hit game, as he finished 2-for-3.

The LumberKings (25-22) head south to take on the rival Quad Cities River Bandits (24-23) at Modern Woodmen Park for a four-game series. First pitch Saturday night is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Listen to the game on AM 1340 KROS in Clinton or live on the web at www.lumberkings.com.
