Lansing Lugnuts News Release
South Bend, Ind. - Marc Rzepczynski posted seven strong innings Friday night, leading the Lansing Lugnuts to a 5-1 victory over the South Bend Silver Hawks at Coveleski Stadium. With the win, Lansing earned a split of the series with the Hawks and completed the 10-game road trip with a 6-4 mark.
Lansing's Justin Jackson opened the game with a double into right-center field and was quickly moved to third base when Raul Barron's bunt started in foul territory towards third base, but hit a pebble and bounced fair for a hit. John Tolisano followed with a sacrifice fly, plating Jackson for the game's first run.
South Bend knotted it up in the second though when Sean Coughlin clobbered a solo homer to right-center.
The dinger would be one of just three hits that the Silver Hawks would muster in the game, as Rzepczynski hurled a gem for Lansing.
Rzepczysnki (7-4) got the win after seven masterful innings where he struck out six and allowed only two knocks. He did not allow a hit after the third and also induced three double plays.
The Lugnuts gave Rzepczynski run support in the third when Jonathan Jaspe blasted a two-run dinger to left field, making it a 3-1 game.
Lansing added another run in the fourth thanks to a Pat McAnaney wild pitch that allowed Moises Sierra to score.
Their final run of the game came in the seventh. After loading the bases on a hit batsman and two walks, Jonathan Jaspe grounded out to second. The out plated Eric Eiland from third base, pushing the lead to 5-1.
McAnaney (0-1) made his Midwest League debut Friday night, but took the loss after giving up four runs, three of which were earned, over five innings.
Lansing (64-52, 25-21) will return home Saturday night to open a four-game series with the Dayton Dragons. Brian Letko (3-3, 3.70) will take the bump for Lansing, while Juan Rafael (3-1, 3.54) will hurl for Dayton. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with LAFCU Fireworks following the game.
