West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

MIDLAND, MI - Justin Miller carried a no hitter into the ninth inning for the Loons, but Chris Carlson stole the show with a three-run homer that lifted the Whitecaps to a 3-2 victory. With the win, West Michigan completed a four game sweep of Great Lakes to finish 5-5 on the road trip.

Miller did not allow a hit until there was one out in the top of the ninth. Kyle Peter hit a line drive that was knocked down when third baseman Brandon Taylor dove toward second base. The ball rolled away from Taylor and Peter was awarded an infield single.

Chris White then drew a walk off Miller to put the tying run on base as the Loons led, 2-0.

Reliever Bobby Blevins struck out Audy Ciriaco. But with a 2-2 count and two out, Chris Carlson hit a three-run homer the opposite way to right-center that gave West Michigan a 3-2 lead.

Miller was charged with two runs on one hit and four walks with six strikeouts in 8.1 innings pitched.

It was the third time this season the Whitecaps have been held to two hits.

Great Lakes scored both of its runs on a double by Taylor in the third inning of West Michigan starter Mauricio Robles. In 3.2 innings of work, Robles issued six walks.

Four Whitecaps relievers combined to throw 5.1 scoreless innings. Noah Krol pitched the eighth and ninth to earn the victory.

The game featured the second brilliant pitching performance of the series. Whitecaps LHP Jon Kibler pitched 6.1 perfect innings in the opener on Tuesday and finished with a two-hit, complete game shutout in a 5-0 victory.
