Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-Anthony Contreras collected three hits and drove in six runs to lead the Fort Wayne Wizards to a 14-3 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Friday night. With the win, the Wizards pulled to within three games of the Dragons in the Eastern Division wildcard race with 23 games to play. Fort Wayne won three of four games in the series.

For the second straight night, the Wizards sent 10 batters to the plate in the third inning. Already leading 1-0, Fort Wayne scored six runs in the third to build a 7-0 lead before adding two more in the fourth to go ahead 9-0.

The Dragons collected five straight hits in the fourth including a home run by Michael McKennon and back-to-back doubles by Jason Bour and Brandon Menchaca, scoring three times with one out to make it 9-3. The Dragons had the bases loaded and were within a base hit of climbing back to within striking distance with their hottest hitter at the plate in Neftali Soto. But Soto grounded into an inning-ending double play and the Wizards immediately scored three runs in the top of the fifth to again lead by nine at 12-3.

Fort Wayne scored twice more in the seventh to close out the scoring.

Dayton finished with 11 hits as eight of the nine Dragons batters collected at least one. Bour had two doubles while Menchaca and Keltavious Jones each added two hits for Dayton.

The Dragons play in Lansing against the Lugnuts on Saturday in the start to an eight game road trip at 7:05 p.m. Juan Rafael (3-1, 3.54) will start for Dayton.

Notes: Dragons starting pitcher Luis Montano left the game in the third inning with shoulder and forearm soreness...The Dragons used infielder Kevyn Feiner as a pitcher in the ninth inning and he tossed a scoreless frame...Neftali Soto extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games.
