Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks were defeated by the Rapid City Rush, 5-2, Friday night in front of a sold out crowd of 5,728 at Independence Events Center. Scott Wray, Brendan Cook and Les Reaney each had a goal and an assist for the Rush who finished the season going 5-0-0 against Missouri. Rapid City goaltender Danny Battochio stopped 33 of 35 shots for his 16th win of the season. Braden Walls and Jeff Christian scored the two goals for Missouri who fell to 18-20-3 on the season. Missouri looks to rebound Saturday night when they host the Allen Americans at 7:05 p.m. at Independence Events Center.

Missouri jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Walls scored his second of the season at the 8:19 mark of the first period. There was a scrum in front of the Rush net, Battochio never covered up the puck, and Walls was there to put it in the net. Brett Hammond and Bret Tyler earned the assists on the play. Brendan Cook tied the game for the Rush just 36 seconds later when he took advantage of a Mavericks turnover and beat goaltender Alexandre Vincent. The teams stayed tied at one after one period and Missouri had the edge in shots at 11-8.

Rapid City took the lead at the 14:47 mark of the second period on Colt King's 14th goal of the season. Missouri tried to clear the puck out of their zone, but it bounced off the referee and Brendon Hodge quickly bounced on the loose puck. He passed to King who lifted the puck over the shoulder of Vincent. Less than two minutes later, Jon Pelle made it a 3-1game to give the Rush a two-goal lead heading into the second intermission.

It was more of the same in the third period as Wray made it 4-1 on his 19th goal of the season. The goal came at the 4:55 mark on assists from Cook and Les Reaney. At 9:55, Reaney scored to give the Rush a four-goal lead and all but end the Mavericks chances. Christian made it 5-2 when he tipped the puck past Battochio, but that was all Missouri could muster.

The Mavericks finished 0-5 on the power play, but killed both of Rapid City's chances with the man advantage. Rapid City outshot the Mavericks 37-35 marking the fifth time in five games they have outshot Missouri.

The Mavericks continue their six-game home stand on Saturday night against the Allen Americans. The first 3,000 fans will receive ice scrapers courtesy of Isle of Capri. For tickets call (866) 443-8849 or visit www.MissouriMavericks.com for more information.
