Bucks Move Into Third, Donate $10,000

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Texas Brahmas 3-1 Friday night in front of 5,126 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. With the win the Bucks improve to 19-13-7 (45 points) and move into a third place tie with the Brahmas in the Southern Conference.

Although the game did not sell out the Bucks still donated $10,000 to WINGS of Laredo during the second intermission.

Kevin Desfosses stopped 37 of 38 shots he faced to improve to 4-1 for the Bucks while Todd Griffith scored two goals in the win.

The Bucks came out on fire in the first period as they took a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Laredo (10-5-4 at home) took a 1-0 with 3:15 left in the first when they scored their seventh shorthanded goal of the season. Todd Griffith picked picked up his second goal of the season when he scored on a backhander in front of the Brahmas net.

The Bucks increased their lead to 2-0 with 1:58 left in the first period when Neil Trimm hammered in a rebound from the bottom of the right circle. The goal was Trimm's seventh of the season and his first since New Year's Eve.

Texas (20-16-5) cut the Laredo lead to 2-1 with one minute left in the first when Jordan Cameron picked up a shorthanded goal.

Laredo made it 3-1 just 38 seconds later when Griffith scored a power-play goal from the top of the right circle. It was Griffith's second of the night and third of the campaign.

The Bucks outshot the Brahmas in the first period 14-11.

Laredo improves to 14-3-4 when scoring first this season.

Niether team was able to score in the second period giving the Bucks a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Each team put up 11 shots in the second period.

Niether team scored in the third period with the Brahmas outshooting the Bucks 16-6. Laredo improves to 15-0-3 when leading after two periods this season.

The Bucks penalty kill was busy in the third period as they killed off a four-minute power-play and a two-minute five-on-three Texas advantage.

Joe Palmer stopped 30 shots in taking the loss for Texas.

Since January of 2009 the Bucks have had a part in helping raise over $34,000 for WINGS, including donating a total $23,200 from the team themselves.

Last season the Bucks donated $30,000 thanks to large crowds at the LEC. On January 9th the Bucks donated $10,000 to WINGS thanks to 6,500 fans in attendance, while on April 1st the Bucks donated $10,000 each to the South Texas Food Bank and Sacred Heart Children's Home after 6,527 fans attended the Bucks "Pack the House for Charity" game. Laredo Energy and Border Lease offered $5 tickets for the second season in a row that night.
