Kings Beat Thunder in Tight Contest

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder lost 2-1 to the Mississippi RiverKings on Friday night at the INTRUST Bank Arena. Former Thunder defenseman Kevin Truelson gave the RiverKings a 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 4:15 in the first period. Truelson played a screen in front of Thunder goaltender Ian Keserich to rip a slapshot past his right. Wichita responded on their own power play when former RiverKing Ryan Campbell lifted a shot past Mark Sibbald from the right hashmark at 7:36.

Mississippi regained the lead early in the second at the 3:45 mark. Jason Reese blocked a slapshot from Nate Schwartzbauer, but the puck deflected in the air off the back of Keserisch and then bounced into the net. A defensive battle ensued in the third with neither team finding the back of the net.

Keserich stopped 26 of 28, while Sibbald earned the win saving 23 of 24. Wichita was 1 for 7 on the power play and 4 for 5 on the penalty kill.

The Thunder takes on the Rapid City Rush tomorrow night at the INTRUST Bank Arena. It is Sonic Thunderdog's 17th birthday, presented by Sonic Drive-In and Clear Channel. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call the Thunder office at (316) 264-GOAL.
