Allen Americans News Release

ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans won their home debut in blue 6-3 over the Corpus Christi IceRays. The club donned its all-blue uniforms for the first time at the Allen Event Center in a victory that advanced Allen's record to 28-9-3 (59 points).

The Americans found themselves killing off early penalties less than five minutes into the game. Corpus Christi's Kyle Peto scored the first goal off a one-timer from the high slot when the IceRays had a 4-on-3 advantage. Allen responded with back-to-back goals from forward Mick Berge and defenseman Jordie Benn in the last two minutes of the period. Berge's tally came on the power play in his first game back since being placed on injured reserve Jan. 8. Benn scored on a shot from the point 23 seconds later to give the Americans a one-goal lead going into the second period.

The scoring didn't stop for Allen when the middle frame began. Defenseman Chris Kaufman lit the lamp when his shot from the blue line hit IceRay Jason Tessier and trickled into the net past Corpus Christi netminder Kris Tebbs. Tebbs, a familiar face to Americans fans, played 20 minutes during his 11-day stint with the Americans when Charlie Effinger was on goaltender injured reserve.

The IceRays inched closer to the Americans when they scored at 9:05 of the second, bringing score to 3-2. Lukin gave Allen its two-goal advantage back when he backhanded a shot past Tebbs.

Lukin continued the Americans scoring in the third period, netting his second goal of the game off a pass from Colton Yellow Horn. Corpus Christi got back within two when Chad Woollard scored the IceRays' second power play goal of the game about one minute later to make it 5-3. Nino Musitelli wrapped up the game with a goal at 15:09 of the third to bring the final score to 6-3.

In addition to Mick Berge, Head Coach and General Manager Dwight Mullins activated Nathan O'Nabigon from injured reserve prior to tonight's tilt.

Chris Whitley made 23 saves tonight, and newcomer Mike Salekin was +1.

The Americans travel to Missouri tomorrow night to take on the Mavericks for the third time this season. The game begins at 7:05 p.m. Fans can watch it live at Boston's Gourmet Pizza. Boston's, the official Allen Americans pre-game and away game headquarters, is located at 6800 State Highway 121, McKinney, TX 75070.
