Sibbald, RiverKings Stop Thunder, Win Fifth Straight

WICHITA, KS --- The Mississippi RiverKings won their fifth straight game Friday night, January 29th, stopping the Wichita Thunder 2-1 in Central Hockey League action at the INVEST Bank Arena in Wichita.

The RiverKings opened the scored in the first period on a power play goal from Kevin Truelson, his sixth goal of the year. Ryan Held and Derek Landmesser earned assists on the goal. Landmesser reached 500 career CHL assists with the helper on Truelson's tally.

Wichita answered with a goal from former RiverKing Ryan Campbell, a power play goal that came at 7:43 of the first period, tying the contest at 1-1.

Nathan Schwartzbauer earned the game-winning goal at 3:45 of the second period on a blast from the left point. Former Thunder forward Glenn Detulleo and Bobby Chaumont were given assists on the play.

From there the goaltenders took over and there was no further scoring in the contest.

Mississippi out shot the Thunder 28-24 for the contest. Mississippi goaltender Mark Sibbald earned his fifth straight victory (5-0-0) with a 23 save effort. Former RiverKings' net minder Ian Keserich made 26-saves in a losing cause.

Mississippi was 1-for-5 on the power play, while Wichita was 1-for-7.

With the win, the RiverKings bring a 21-15-4 record and a five-game winning streak to Tulsa for a game tomorrow night starting at 7:35 PM. Mississippi is tied with Bossier-Sheverport for third place in the CHL Northern Conference.
