Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs scored four unanswered goals to finish the game and roll to a 6-3 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Friday night at the CenturyTel Center. The ‘Bugs have now won four consecutive home games, including two straight over the Bees by a combined score of 13-3.

Jeff Kyrzakos scored twice and added an assist in the game, while Shawn Limpright, David Rutherford and Mark Johnson each had a goal and an assist. Travis Clayton chipped in two helpers and John DeCaro stopped 27 shots in his 13th win of the year.

Kyrzakos opened a high-scoring first period, rifling a shot over Andy Franck's glove at 3:03 to give the ‘Bugs the early 1-0 advantage. The Killer Bees stormed back to take a 2-1 lead after a pair of odd-man rushes. Rio Grande Valley got on the board when Joel Irving stepped out of the penalty box and received a long pass before shelving a shot to tie the game at one. Just 1:01 later, Stacy Bauman scored on a 2-on-1 break to put the visitors ahead. Mark Johnson tied it at two later in the period, beating Franck from the high slot at 16:07.

Rio Grande Valley re-took the lead early in the second thanks to another odd-man situation as Sean Muncy scored during a 2-on-1 break at 1:13 to make it 3-2. Though the Mudbugs built a 14-7 shot advantage in the middle frame, they didn't get the equalizer until the final moments. After creating a shorthanded turnover and racing ahead on a breakaway, Shawn Limpright was tripped down and awarded a penalty shot. Limpright skated in and fired a shot into the top corner to tie the game at three with only nine seconds left in the second period.

Bossier-Shreveport went on top to stay just 59 seconds into the final period when Limpright fed a perfect pass in front to Kyrzakos, who knocked home his second of the game to put the Mudbugs on top 4-3. David Rutherford then scored on a wraparound midway through the third and Scott Kalinchuk found the net with a booming slapshot less than a minute later to put the game out of reach at 6-3.

Andy Franck made 32 saves in defeat for the Killer Bees, who finished 1 for 5 on the powerplay, while the Mudbugs were 0 for 3. Bossier-Shreveport outshot Rio Grande Valley 38-30 in the contest.

The Mudbugs are right back on home ice tomorrow night to host the Colorado Eagles at 7:05 pm, presented by Bailey's Jewelers. Tomorrow is the third and final regular season game between the two Northern Conference rivals, with Colorado coming off an overtime win in Tulsa on Friday.
