Kansas City Mavericks News Release
TULSA, Okla. - The Kansas City Mavericks (2-1-1-0) were dealt their first regulation loss of the season in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Tulsa Oilers (3-0-0-1) Friday night at the B.O.K. Center.
After the teams played to a 0-0 stalemate in the first period, the Oilers got the scoring started midway through the second with a quick two-goal outburst to take a 2-0 lead. The first came from Kyle Rhodes at the 8:13 mark of the middle frame and was followed by Adam Pleskach's second of the season.
A Mavericks power play shortly after led to the visiting team trimming the deficit back to one as Greb Betzold redirected a shot and found twine, assists going to Willie Raskob and Rocco Carzo.
The Oilers put an end to the Mavs' comeback bid early in the third period, Roman Ammirato lighting the lamp for the first time this season just 1:46 into the final frame to steal back the momentum. Tulsa carried play throughout the final frame and was rewarded again in the late stages, a bad bounce ending up in the back of Kansas City's net to produce a 4-1 final.
The Mavericks return home on Saturday as they play host to the Indy Fuel at 7:05 p.m. for the Mavs Halloween theme night.
