Americans Open Weekend Series in South Dakota
October 26, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release
Rapid City, SD - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, open a three-game weekend series against the Rapid City Rush at 8:05 pm CST.
The Americans are looking to end a three-game skid, after losing back to back against Wichita last Friday and Saturday, and a loss to Tulsa last Sunday.
Allen is led by rookies Braylon Shmyr and Alex Breton, who have eight points each. Shmyr (1) and Breton (2) are atop of the ECHL in rookie points. The Americans haven't won since October 13th, when they shutout Wichita 4-0.
Spencer Asuchak and Joel Chouinard are tied for the team lead in plus/minus at +2. CJ Motte has started all but one game this season for Allen, and has a 1-2-0-1 record with a 3.48 goals-against average. Expect to see both goalies in the mix this weekend.
Surprisingly, the Americans are 24th in the league, record-wise, headed into the game tonight at 1-3-0-1. Rapid City is right behind Allen at 1-3-0-0, so this weekend is an opportunity for the Americans to get things headed in the right direction.
"We're getting a couple of guys back this weekend that should really help our lineup," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. "We've made a couple of changes to our lines which should really help."
Spencer Asuchak has moved back to the top line with Casey Pierro-Zabotel and Dante Salituro. Thomas Frazee will center the second line with Zach Pochiro and Braylon Shmyr on the wings, giving the Americans a great balance on the top two lines.
Rapid City is off to a slow start as well. Pierre Luc Mercier leads the club in scoring through four games with five points (2 goals and 3 assists). There are some familiar names to Allen fans, Steven Tarasuk, Garrett Klotz and Tyler Poulson, are on the 2018-2019 Rapid City roster. Tarasuk is tied for second on the team in scoring with three points. Poulson has no points in two games.
You can listen to tonight's game on mixlr.com with Tommy Daniels calling the action. Pregame show airs at 7:50 pm with an 8:05 puck drop from the Rushmore Civic Center.
The Americans next homestand is next Friday and Saturday, when the South Carolina Stingrays visit Allen. Tickets are on sale NOW at www.allenamericans.com or call 972-912-1000.
