ATLANTA - Atlanta United returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Houston Dynamo at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the first of two home matches this week. Atlanta enters the match in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings while the Dynamo sits in eighth, two points back of the playoff line in the Western Conference. Atlanta and Houston have split their first two matches in MLS with each side winning at home. Atlanta won 4-1 at Bobby Dodd Stadium May 20, 2017 while Houston earned a 4-0 victory on opening weekend of MLS in 2018. Atlanta owns a 6-1-3 record at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this season and Houston enters the match 1-7-0 on the road.
Josef Martinez scored in his fifth consecutive league match in Atlanta's 2-1 loss at Seattle Sounders on July 14 and in his sixth consecutive match in all competitions. Martinez now has eight goals in his last five MLS matches and his 13 goals are tied for second-most in MLS. The Venezuelan striker has scored 63 career goals and holds the best goals per 90 minutes mark in league history (.95).
Atlanta will host its second consecutive home game Sunday against Eastern Conference opponent D.C. United (4 p.m. ET, ESPN, Sports Radio 92-9 The Game, La Mejor).
