July 16, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - As Sounders FC takes on Bundesliga power Borussia Dortmund in an international friendly this Wednesday evening, fans have a number of special activities to look forward to.
First and foremost, the Rave Green are continuing activities with Make-A-Wish youth, Bheem Goyal. Bheem, a bright, active eight-year-old battling acute lymphocytic leukemia, is a passionate Sounders FC fan whose dream is to play for Seattle. Last Wednesday, he was signed to a Sounders FC contract and participated in a full day of activities, including goalkeeper training with Stefan Frei, his favorite player.
Make-A-Wish youth Bheem Goyal signed with Sounders FC last week and is set to start at goalkeeper on Wednesday as part of his wish of becoming a Sounders FC player (Lindsey Wasson / Seattle Sounders FC).
On Wednesday night, Bheem will suit up with the club and start in goal against Borussia Dortmund, where he is set to take part in a "ceremonial first kick" to complete his wish of becoming a Sounders FC player. Fans are encouraged to get to know Bheem before the Starting XI call-and-repeat on Wednesday evening.
In addition to cheering Bheem on, fans attending Wednesday's match can enjoy other prematch activities.
In the northwest concourse at the Forever Green Kids Club, young guests can stop by to meet not only Sounders FC's Sammy the Sounder, but also Emma, Dortmund's beloved bee mascot.
Prior to kickoff on Wednesday, University of Washington star and First Round 2019 NBA Draft selection Matisse Thybulle is leading "Scarves Up." Thybulle, a Seattle native and Eastside Catholic graduate, won the 2019 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year as the nation's best defender in his senior year at Washington before the Philadelphia 76ers selected him 20th overall in last month's draft.
At halftime of the match, fans can enjoy a sneak peek of This is Football, a six-part series that explores the stories, emotions and triumphs surrounding football's unique ability to unite people around the world. Created by October Films and Brutal Media and produced in partnership with Starbucks, the series is available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video beginning August 2, 2019.
Following Wednesday's friendly, Sounders FC returns to MLS action on Sunday, July 21 with a home clash against archrival Portland Timbers (6:30 p.m. PT / FS1, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
