Toledo Mud Hens News Release

In the final game of a three game series in Pawtucket, the Mud Hens found themselves trailing after six innings. After losing the first two games of the weekend against the Red Sox, Toledo made a comeback in the seventh inning to get back in the win column. Mike Belfiore led the way on the mound, and the Hens were able to salvage a 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Down 2-0 in the third inning, Detroit Tigers' designated hitter Victor Martinez, in his first game on rehabilitation assignment, made his way to the plate for his second at bat of the game. Martinez, who finished second in the American League Most Valuable Player voting last season, lined an RBI single to left field to score Jeff McVaney and cut Pawtucket's lead in half.

In the seventh inning, the Hens opened the floodgates on the PawSox. Steven Moya led off the inning with a solid single to center field, and then Brendan Harris followed with a walk. With the bases loaded and no outs, Miguel Gonzalez singled to left field to tie the game at two. A batter later, a ground out from Xavier Avery gave the Hens a 3-2 lead. Dixon Machado struck out to end the inning, but during the at bat a passed ball allowed McVaney to score his second run of the game giving Toledo a 4-2 lead.

Bruce Rondon threw a scoreless eighth inning that included a strikeout, and then handed the ball off to Alberto Cabrera in the ninth. The Red Sox got a run back in the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Hens' comeback as Cabrera slammed the door for his eighth save of the season.

The Mud Hens continue their road trip this week as they journey to Syracuse to take on the Chiefs. Monday, Toledo plays at 7:05 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
