Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (23-42) blanked the Norfolk Tides (35-28) by a score of 2-0 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park to earn a split of the four-game set.
IronPigs starter Phillippe Aumont (3-4) scattered four hits over 5.2 shutout innings while walking five and fanning nine.
Brian Bogusevic gave the Pigs an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a solo shot to right. It was the sixth home run of the season for Bogusevic (1-4, HR, RBI, R).
The Tides had two on in scoring position with one out in the fifth, but Aumont was able to strike out Julio Borbon and Rey Navarro to wiggle his way out of the jam.
Lehigh Valley tacked on a run in the sixth to make it 2-0 as Tyler Henson led off with a single, stole second and scored on Russ Canzler's (1-3, RBI, SB) RBI single.
RHP Eddie Gamboa (4-4) took the loss for Norfolk after surrendering a run on two hits to go along with two walks and two strikeouts in five innings of work.
Norfolk loaded the bases with nobody out in the seventh against RHP Jason Berken (2.1 IP, 4 H, 2 K), but the right-hander was able to fan Chris Parmelee and get Steve Clevenger to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
LHP Jake Diekman (1.0 IP) notched his second save of the year for the IronPigs by retiring the Tides in order in the ninth.
The IronPigs return home to begin a four-game series with the Buffalo Bisons on Monday night. First pitch from Coca-Cola Park is set for 7:05 p.m. as Pigs LHP Anthony Vasquez (3-1, 2.73) takes on fellow southpaw Felix Doubront (0-2, 2.32).
