Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, PA - The Rochester Red Wings scored twice in the fourth inning and held on to nip the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. The Red Wings (32-3) haulted their six-game slide while ending the RailRiders' win streak at six. SWB took 3-of-4 in the weekend set and stand 37-28 on the season.
Taylor Rogers (6-4) hurled eight strong innings for Rochester. He yielded a single run while scattering six hits and striking out a season-high eight. The left-hander's outing overshadowed a great start from Bryan Mitchell (4-5). The right-hander limited Rochester to two runs on four hits over seven innings. He struck out five and walked one. A.J. Achter pitched a perfect ninth for his 10th save.
Ben Gamel helped the RailRiders score the game's first run in the third stanza. Ali Castillo singled and moved to third on a hit by catcher Juan Graterol. Gamel followed with a groundout to second that scored Castillo for a 1-0 lead.
Rochester claimed the advantage for good in the fourth. Danny Santana reached on a bunt single and moved to third on a softly lined hit by James Beresford. Danny Ortiz stroked a double just fair into the right field corner to plate Santana and Beresford for the decisive runs.
Mitchell and reliever Nick Rumbelow combined to retire 14 consecutive Red Wings to finish the game.
The RailRiders will have Monday off before beginning a three-game series against the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins) at Frontier Field. The six-game road trip continues with three at Lehigh Valley on the back half of the trip. SWB returns home to host the Louisville Bats on Monday, June 22. The seven-game homestand against Louisville and Buffalo features a Rob Refsnyder bobblehead giveaway, presented by Keystone Sanitary Landfill, on Saturday, June 27.
