Columbus, OH (June 14, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs beat the Columbus Clippers, 7-4, Sunday afternoon in a seven-inning game, after Columbus won the completion of yesterday's suspended game 3-0. Jason Martinson homered twice in the second game, upping his team-leading total to nine.

Columbus (34-30) took a 3-0 lead Saturday night on a three-run home run by Lonnie Chisenhall. The game was suspended Saturday night in the bottom of the third inning due to rain and lightning. After the game resumed Sunday, it held at 3-0 all the way to the end. The Chiefs did rally in the seventh, loading the bases with no one out, but did not score. Bruce Billings threw four and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball in the loss.

Syracuse (20-44) stuck first in the regularly-scheduled contest. Jason Martinson hit his eighth home run of the year in the second inning off Jhoulys Chacin to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

The Clippers answered right back in the bottom of the frame. Tyler Holt singled off Scott McGreogr, followed by a bunt single by Michael Martinez. Adam Moore then drove in Holt with a double to tie the game at one. Carlos Moncrief followed with a sacrifice fly to give Columbus a 2-1 lead.

The Chiefs took the lead for good in the fourth. Dan Butler started the inning by reaching on an error on Jose Ramirez at shortstop. Chacin walked Jose Lozada to put two on. Darin Mastroianni doubled in the first two runs, giving Syracuse the lead back at 3-2. Mastroianni reached third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to two. Syracuse continued to rally as Emmanuel Burriss walked, and Mark Minicozzi singled to put runners on first and second. The runners each moved up on a error on Chacin on a pickoff attempt to second. Caleb Ramsey singled in Burriss to cap the inning with a 5-2 Syracuse lead.

Syracuse added a sixth run in the fourth. Syracuse loaded the bases on a Lozada walk, Mastroianni single, and Burriss walk. Mark Minicozzi then hit a ground ball to short. Ramirez flipped to second for an out, but the double-play chance at first was late to bring in the sixth run.

Columbus slowly chipped away at the lead. In the fifth, Tyler Naquin walked with one out. After a Ramirez single, Jesus Aguilar singled in Naquin to cut the lead to 6-3. Then, in the sixth inning, Carlos Moncrief doubled with two outs off Matt Grace. A batter later, Ryan Rohlinger socred Moncrief with a RBI single to trim the lead to 6-4.

Martinson helped Syracuse grabbed some insurance in the seventh. The shortstop drilled his second home run of the day, hitting a long fly ball into the left-field seats, to push the Chiefs' lead to 7-4.

Syracuse returns home Monday to open a three-game set against Toledo. Taylor Jordan is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Tim Melville for the Mud Hens. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
