LOUISVILLE, Ky.---The Durham Bulls (38-27) took the series against the Louisville Bats (32-32) after winning Sunday, 3-2, at Louisville Slugger Field.

The Bulls were on the board early in the second as shortstop Hak-Ju Lee singled to score first baseman J.P. Arencibia. The Bats followed shortly, in the fourth with two singles and a double by shortstop Hernan Iribarren to score designated hitter Irving Falu and first baseman Steve Selsky to take the lead, 2-1.

In the sixth, third baseman Richie Shaffer singled to right field to allow right fielder Mikie Mahtook to score and the Bulls took the lead, 3-2.

Lefty Scott Diamond (W, 7-2, 3.04) started on some familiar dirt for Durham as he had previously played for the Louisville Bats in 2014. He went for five and one-third innings, gave up six hits, allowed two runs both earned, walked two, and struck out two.

Starting on the mound for the Bats was righty Josh Smith (L, 1-3, 3.56). He went seven innings, gave up seven hits, allowed three runs all earned, walked two, and struck out three.

The Bats were unable to answer after a controversial hit down the right field line was called foul in the ninth, which could have allowed the Bats to tie the game. Instead, Ryan LaMarre struck out to end the game.

Tomorrow the Bats start a three game series against the Gwinnett Braves at 7:05 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field. Projected to pitch for the Braves is right-hander Sugar Ray Marimon (3-2,3.60) and for the Bats left-hander David Holmberg (3-2,4.55).
