
Maple Leafs Announce 2002-03 Schedule

The St. John's Maple Leafs released its schedule for the 2002-2003 American Hockey League season. The Maple Leafs will start its twelfth AHL season on the road when it faces the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Thursday, October 10 at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza. The club will play its home opener at Mile One Stadium on Tuesday, October 22nd when it hosts the Manitoba Moose.
This year's schedule will see the Maple Leafs face 16 of the other 27 teams in the League. St. John's will play in the AHL's Canadian Division of the Eastern Conference joining the Hamilton Bulldogs (Edmonton Oilers/Montreal Canadiens), the Manitoba Moose (Vancouver Canucks),and the Saint John Flames (Calgary Flames). The club will play 32 of its 80 games against the Canadian Division that includes 12 games (6 home, 6 away) each against the Bulldogs and Flames and 8 games (4 home, 4 away) against the Moose. January (10 home, 6 away), December (5 home, 9 away) and March (9 home, 5 away) will be the most active months, seeing the Leafs play 16 and 14 games respectively. The home schedule will also see 14 games played before Christmas and 26 games played after the holiday season. 22 of the team's 40 home games will be on weekend dates, with 12 games on Friday, 9 on Saturday and 1 Sunday contest. Starting times for all games is 7:35pm.
The longest home stand will take place from February 28 to March 19 (20 days), seeing the club play 10 times over this span. The longest roadtrip is in February from February 14 to February 25 (12 days), with the team playing 7 games. As well, the team will play 3 games in 3 nights 4 times on the road this year.

November 26 Maple Leafs face division rival Saint John Flames for the first time at home.
December 10 Maple Leafs face division rival Hamilton Bulldogs for the first time at home.
February 15 Maple Leafs face the Binghamton Senators at The Corel Centre in Ottawa, ON.
March 18 Maple Leafs host the expansion Binghamton Senators at home for the first time in franchise history.
April 4 Maple Leafs host the Manitoba Moose to finish the 2002-2003 regular season.
