Adirondack Phantoms News Release

(PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 1, 2002) - The Philadelphia Phantoms today announced they will open their seventh season on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7:05 p.m., when they host the Rochester Americans at the First Union Spectrum. The contest is the first of 80 on Philadelphia's schedule during the 2002-03 American Hockey League season.

For the second year in a row, Philadelphia will join rivals Hershey, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Norfolk in the South Division of the AHL's Western Conference. A combined 16 home games will be played against the three divisional foes, including the Phantoms' second game of the season on Friday, Oct. 18 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton; Philadelphia's annual post-Thanksgiving game on Friday, Nov. 29 vs. Hershey; and the final two home games of the year on Friday, April 4 vs. Hershey, and Sunday, April 6 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Thirty-three of Philadelphia's 40 home games are scheduled on weekends, including three at the First Union Center. The first Wednesday game of the year on Nov. 6 will be Philadelphia's inaugural School Day Game, as the Phantoms and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are set to take to the ice at 11:00 a.m. in front of children from all across the Delaware Valley.

Other highlights of the 2002-03 schedule include first-ever meetings with the Utah Grizzlies, Grand Rapids Griffins and Manchester Monarchs, who all joined the AHL last season; a pre-Super Bowl showdown against Utah at the First Union Center on Jan. 26; and the only visit by the defending Calder Cup champion Chicago Wolves on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the First Union Center.

"We are very pleased with the way the schedule turned out," said Frank Miceli, Phantoms C.O.O. and Vice President of Minor League Operations for Comcast-Spectacor. "The divisional games against Hershey, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Norfolk will be very intense, and there are plenty of weekend dates so the whole family can attend together. The 2002-03 Phantoms season should be one of the best yet."

The Phantoms are now accepting payments and deposits for 2002-03 season ticket plans. Call the Phantoms sales staff for more information at 215-465-4522. Announcements regarding individual game on-sale dates, training camp and theme nights are expected in the coming weeks.
