Wolf Pack Announce 2002-03 Schedule
August 1, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Connecticut Whale News Release
Hartford, August 1, 2002 -- Hartford Wolf Pack General Manager Al Coates announced today that the Club will open the 2002-03 regular season on Friday, October 11th in Springfield against the arch-rival Springfield Falcons. The Wolf Pack will play their first game at the Hartford Civic Center the following Saturday, October 19th vs. Manchester (7:05 PM).
"The AHL has done a great job of giving us a very workable schedule for our fans," Coates said. "We have some excellent weekend dates, which we rely on, and a nice balance of playing our close rivals a number of times, with getting a look at some of the clubs we haven't seen before."
The 2002-03 schedule features 15 Saturday-night home dates, and an additional eight Friday-evening home games. The Pack will also play at home the night before Thanksgiving (Wednesday, November 27th), as well as the Day after Christmas (Thursday, December 26th). The Wolf Pack once again will offer fans several Sunday late-afternoon contests throughout the course of the season, including: Sun., October 27 vs. Albany; Sun., Jan. 5 vs. Albany; Sunday, January 19th vs. Providence; Sunday, February 23rd vs. Manchester; Sunday, March 16 vs. Springfield; and Sunday, March 30th vs. Bridgeport, all 4:05 PM faceoffs.
Ten meetings each (five home, five road) with intense rivals Bridgeport (2002 Calder Cup finalists), Springfield and Providence highlight the 2002-03 schedule. The Pack will clash with East Division foe (and New Jersey Devil affiliate) Albany eight times (four home, four road), and play the new Binghamton Senators, the other members of the East Division, four times (two home, two road).
Among other notable opponents on the Wolf Pack's schedule are: the Chicago Wolves, the defending Calder Cup champions (one home, one road); the Utah Grizzlies (two home, two road) and Milwaukee Admirals (one home, one road), for their first-ever meetings with the Wolf Pack; and the brand-new San Antonio Stampede (one home, one road).
Starting times for all home games will be 7:05 PM, except for Saturday, December 28th vs. Lowell (7:35) and the six Sunday contests.
