
Ducks' Season Opener Set for October 19

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks will open its 2002-2003 regular-season schedule by visiting the defending Calder Cup champion Chicago Wolves Saturday, October 12 at 8:00 p.m. Cincinnati will open the home portion of its schedule Saturday, October 19 at 7:35 p.m., when it hosts the Houston Aeros at the Cincinnati Gardens.
The Ducks' regular-season schedule includes 80 games in total, 40 games at the Cincinnati Gardens and 40 games on the road. The AHL will enter the 2002-2003 season with an all-time high 28 games. All 30 NHL teams will develop their top prospects in the AHL this season. Each team in the AHL plays an unbalanced schedule, weighted towards teams playing the majority of their games within their division and conference.
The Ducks will compete in the Central Division of the AHL's Western Conference along with the Cleveland Barons, Grand Rapids Griffins, Rochester Americans and Syracuse Crunch.
Thirty-six of Cincinnati's home games will take place on the weekend, including 12 Fridays, 17 Saturdays and seven Sundays. The home schedule also includes four Wednesday games: November 27 vs. Milwaukee; December 11 vs. Syracuse; January 22 vs. Cleveland; and February 19 vs. Chicago.
The 2002-2003 AHL schedule has Cincinnati playing 74 of its 80 games against teams from the Western Conference, including 32 games against Central Division opponents, 26 games against the West Division and 16 games against South Division clubs.
The Ducks have two season-high six game homestands: October 19-November 2 and February 19-March 2. The club also has a five-game homestand (January 18-25) and a four-game homestand (January 3-11). November and January are the busiest months at the Cincinnati Gardens for the Ducks, with nine home games each month.
Monday through Saturday home starting times are 7:35 p.m., while Sunday home games will begin at 5:05 p.m.
The Ducks' road schedule features a season-high eight-game trip March 9-23 and a five-game trip December 18-26. Other road schedule highlights include a game February 8 against Syracuse at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio at 7:00 p.m.
