
Rats Announce 10th Anniversary schedule

Albany N.Y. â The Albany River Rats announced today that the club will open its 10th Anniversary American Hockey League season on Friday, October 11th at 7:35p.m. in a road contest against the Rochester Americans. The match-up represents a return to the same venue where the team began its inaugural campaign back in October of 1993. The top minor league affiliate of the New Jersey Devils will kick off its home schedule at Pepsi Arena on Saturday, October 12th against the St. John's Maple Leafs at 7:00p.m. The club will hold its 10th Annual pre-game block party on South Pearl Street at 5:00p.m.
The River Rats' 80-game regular season schedule includes match-ups against 19 of the league's 28 member clubs including eight games with the Binghamton Senators, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Hartford Wolf*Pack and Springfield Falcons. Albany will skate six times against New York State rivals Rochester and Syracuse, as well as former Empire Division foe, the Hamilton Bulldogs.
The home portion of the schedule features 28 weekend dates with a season-high eight home games in both November and January. The team will participate in 16 games during November and skates in a season-high 10 games away from the Capital District in March. The season finale will occur on Saturday, April 5th against Binghamton in a 7:00p.m.face-off at Pepsi Arena.
Other notes of interest:
- The River Rats visit the Hershey Bears' new GIANT center on October 20th at 6:00p.m.
- Albany and Binghamton will ignite their rivalry in a road meeting on November 3rd at 5:05p.m. and the two clubs face-off for the first time at Pepsi Arena on December 28th at 7:00pm.
- The River Rats return the successful Saturday afternoon matinee with 2:00p.m. games against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (February 15th) & Saint John (March 15th).
- Holiday games include: Columbus Day (October 14th) vs. Norfolk @ 4:00p.m.; Veterans Day (November 14th) vs. Saint John @ 4:00p.m. & Valentines Day (February 14th) vs. Hershey @ 7:00p.m
- The River Rats will have two four game home stands at Pepsi Arena on November 29th - December 6th & January 8th â 18th.
- Albany heads out on a five-game road trip, the longest of the season, from March 21st-29th to accommodate the East Coast Athletic Conference tournament at Pepsi Arena.
- The 2003 AHL All-Star Classic will take place on February 2nd & 3rd at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland Maine.
