August 30, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters dropped a 4-0 decision to the Auburn Doubledays on Sunday afternoon at Falcon Park. The Cutters were held to just four hits in the opening game of the series. Dylan Bosheers lead the Cutters offensively going 2 for 3 at the plate. The Cutters magic number for clinching the division drops to two despite the loss as West Virginia lost to Batavia by a score of 8-5.
Luke Leftwich looked to improve his 2-1 record on the season as he made his eighth start of the season for Williamsport. Auburn found their way onto the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning. Leftwich recorded the first out of the inning before allowing back to back singles. Auburn took advantage of a Cutters error to take a 1-0 lead. Williamsport would get out of the inning after a groundout to third and limit the damage.
The Cutters looked to put something together offensively in the top of the second inning. Austin Bossart delivered the Cutters first hit with one out in the inning and would be followed with a single from Dylan Bosheers two batters later. Williamsport would be unable to drive in either Bossart or Bosheers, stranding them on base. Auburn went on to score a run in the bottom of the second inning and one more in the third to stretch their lead to 3-0.
Williamsport would try to make things interesting in the top of the eighth inning against the Doubledays bullpen. Luis Espiritu lead off the inning with a single into left field as he picked up the Cutters fourth hit of the game. Zach Coppola would follow by grounding into a fielder's choice to erase Espiritu. Auburn got out of the inning with back to back groundouts. Leftwich suffered his second loss of the season as he worked four innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits. Denton Keys pitched three innings in relief for the Cutters surrendering one run on four hits. Jacob Waguespack pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Williamsport while striking out one batter.
