Staten Island Yankees News Release

After dropping consecutive games to the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Staten Island Yankees (35-32) unleashed on the Connecticut Tigers (31-33), winning 10-2.

Staten Island wasted no time putting runs on the board Sunday afternoon. The hot-hitting Trey Amburgey singled to center field then stole second base, allowing him to score on a Ryan Krill single for the first run of the game. Back-to-back singles by Jhalan Jackson and Brandon Wagner brought home Krill to give the Baby Bombers a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

The Yankees continued hitting in the second inning. In his Staten Island debut, 18 year-old shortstop Danienger Perez made a stellar first impression, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI, the first hit of which was a second inning single, followed by a walk by Jeff Hendrix. Amburgey drove both runners home to end the inning with a double to right field for a 4-0 lead.

Staten Island's offensive onslaught continued in the third inning. Krill smacked a double to right field to kick the inning off, his eighth double of the season. After Jackson struck out, Brandon Wagner drew a walk, followed by a Jake Hernandez single that brought Krill home. Drew Bridges followed with a single of his own, scoring Wagner. Perez kept the scoring alive in the inning with a triple to right field, bringing Hernandez home to score. With Hendrix at the plate, Perez came home to score on a wild pitch to make the score 9-0 in favor of the Yankees.

Ethan Carnes (W, 2-0) set the table for Staten Island's big day, tossing six shutout innings, allowing only three hits.

Connecticut got their only runs of the game off a two-run homer to left field from Shane Zeile off James Reeves, cutting the score to 9-2.

The two teams face off again Monday night at 7 p.m. for the final Big Money Monday of the 2015 season.
