
Madsen Heads to Tucson; Admirals Add Goaltender Brad Barone

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals announced Saturday that the Arizona Coyotes (AHL) have reassigned goaltender Merrick Madsen to the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League (AHL). In a related move, the Admirals have agreed to terms with goaltender Brad Barone.
Madsen, 23, heads to Tucson after posting a 2-0-0 record with one shutout, a 0.50 goals-against-average and 0.985 save percentage with the Admirals this season. Madsen has stopped 66 of 67 shots faced this season.
Madsen logged a 10-10-3 record, with a 2.27 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage during his senior season at Harvard University last season. The 6-5, 190-pound rookie netminder had posted 28-6-2 record during the 2016-17 season and concluded his collegiate career with a 56-23-8 mark. The Acton, California native was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth-round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Madsen is under contract with the Arizona Coyotes (NHL).
Barone, 27, joins the Admirals from the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) where he has posted a 1-1-0 record in three games this season. The 5-11, 180-pound netminder posted a 15-15-2 record with a 2.93 goals-against-average and a .917 save percentage in 36 appearances with Roanoke last season. The Medfield, Massachusetts native has appeared in five career ECHL games in stints with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, Atlanta Gladiators and Florida Everblades.
The Admirals face the South Carolina Stingrays tonight at Scope. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
